November
13th, 2005:
It
got down to –8° last night -
I do believe that is the coldest temperature so far this fall, though it
got down to –7° on October 6th. Not bad at all. I seem to
remember a November when we had a solid week of temperatures in the –20°
to –30° range. That year, we got our January weather in November, and
our November weather in January.
It
snowed almost all day Tuesday; must have dropped a good three inches or so
of snow. Everything looked pretty, as there had been no wind and the snow
was piled on every little twig. Walking was treacherous, even though the
Park maintainer had been around. We had planned to go to Tisdale on
Wednesday, but heard some horror stories about the highways so stayed
home.
We
did go on Thursday and by then there was just some slush at the sides of
the road. Not that we were too worried -
we had been to Porcupine Plain on Monday and had Dale put on our snow
tires. How’s that for timing?
There
was almost no sign of snow from Eldersley to Tisdale; we gather they only
got a skiff or two on Tuesday. By the time we came home, there was very
little left all the way to Bjorkdale.
Almost
all the swaths have been picked up close to Tisdale, though there are a
couple of fields still out. What a battle that was!
We
went to Archerwill for their Craft Show and Sale yesterday, mostly for
lunch and to buy some lefsa, fudge and rosettes. The fudge disappeared
before we were home an hour. I doubt if the rosettes will last long,
either, and we’ve already made a dent in the lefsa. I like it with just
a bit of butter, and eat it instead of bread. For dessert, a sprinkle of
sugar, a few drops of lemon juice, roll it up and yummy!
I
thought one’s sense of taste diminished as one aged -
for me it seems to be the reverse, because everything Doreen sets in front
of me tastes marvellous. As a result, it gets harder and harder to do up
my pants!
There
was very good attendance at the Craft Show. We got there just before noon
and had a good choice of lunch and dessert, but by the time we were
finished they were running out of some stuff. Archerwill always gets a lot
of displayers and sellers -
the hall was full, and there was a lot to see.
There
are still some swaths in the field along Highway #349 this side of
Archerwill. There is too much snow on them to be harvestable now.
It’s
clean-up time again. We go through boxes and boxes of old records,
clippings and other stuff. We set aside 90% of it for burning, then go
through it again, just in case, and put most of it back onto the shelf.
Sound familiar? Oh, well -
at least it gets thinned out a little each time!
